Tehran (IP) - The opening ceremony of the 38th Tehran International Short Film Festival was held on Tuesday in Iran Mall Cinema Complex.

Iran PressIran news: The 38th Tehran International Short Film Festival is held every year in two sections; national and international.

Some 64 films from 32 countries will compete at the 38th Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) Award and the event’s $2,000 Grand Prize.

Sadegh Mousavi, the festival secretary, said at the opening ceremony: “This year, we also received approval from the Academy Awards to be the third country in the Middle East and the seventh country in Asia to achieve this."

The secretary of the festival noted: "In order to increase knowledge, 20 specialized meetings will be held through cyberspace platforms."

This year, 128 countries with 6402 films registered their works in the secretariat, of which 58 foreign films had the opportunity to participate in the festival.

1775 films were registered in the national section.

The 38th edition of the TISFF has been approved by the Academy Awards, popularly known as the OSCAR, and became the only OSCAR qualifying festival in Iran.

Short feature, documentary, and experimental works from the USA, France, Germany, Australia, China, India, Spain, Netherlands, Brazil, Peru, Belarus, Iceland, Kenya, Canada, Russia, Belgium, Turkey, Austria, Poland, Mexico, Switzerland, Argentina, Denmark, Lebanon, Taiwan, Finland, Singapore, Hungary, Estonia, Cambodia, Portugal, and Iran will be put on display at the festival.

The 38th Tehran international short film festival is held between 19-24 October in Tehran, Iran. Since 2020, Tehran international short film festival has been considered as an OSCAR qualifying film festival by ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES.
