(IP)- The Minister of Interior of Iraq announced the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran on establishing joint security bases and border control.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari held a talk with Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi at the Zurbatiyah border crossing in Wasit province on Saturday.

Iranian and Iraqi Interior Ministers discussed issues related to joint security coordination, international border control, and preparations for receiving Iranian pilgrims on the Arbaeen pilgrimage.  

Iraq's Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari announced the agreements on establishing joint security bases at the international land borders in a joint press conference.

According to Al-Shammari, establishing joint security bases aims to facilitate the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Iranian and Iraqi Interior Ministers have exchanged views about the two countries' coordination in securing international borders and the preparations needed for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, according to Al-Shammari.  

In the meeting of the interior ministers of Iran and Iraq, the governors of Basra and Wasit Governorate, the head of the border crossings, and some senior officials of the two countries were also present. 

The Zurbatiyah border crossing is a crucial entryway into Iraq, regularly receiving millions of pilgrims annually from neighboring countries, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The land border crossing at Zurbatiyah, situated in Wasit province, is crucial in connecting Iraq and Iran for transporting goods and passengers.

The Zurbatiyah border crossing is 150 kilometers from Baghdad, on the border adjacent to Mehran in the Ilam province.
