Iran Press/ Asia: "Afghanistan has about 7 million refugees, of which 3 million live in Pakistan, 3 million in Iran and 1 million in other parts of the world," Abdulmutallab Haqqani, the spokesman for the Taliban Government's Ministry of Immigration and Repatriation told Iran Press in Kabul on the occasion of International Refugee Day.
World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.
In this context, Iran has hosted Afghan refugees for more than 40 years and provided them with welfare, education, and medical facilities.
Haqqani said that after the Taliban government came to power, 700,000 refugees returned to Afghanistan, which is increasing.
As Abdulmutallab Haqqani says, the lack of health facilities, poverty, and jobs are the reason for the Afghans' migration, not political cases or asylum-seeking.
The United Nations says more than 90 percent of the Afghan people are suffering from acute hunger and that a humanitarian catastrophe will occur if the international community does not help Afghans end the crisis.
Taliban Deputy Spokesman Bilal Karimi also told Iran Press that all countries should consider the needs of the Afghan people and send their humanitarian aid to them.
