Syrian army air defence engaged a "hostile target" which had breached the country's air space west of the capital Damascus

IranPress/Middle East: According to Syrian Arab News Agency's reporter on Saturday, Syrian army air defence engaged a "hostile target" which had breached Syrian air space west of the capital Damascus.

The news agency added that target was destroyed over Deir al-Ashair area.

There were no immediate reports as to what it was.

Earlier this month, another report of the army's air defense systems engaging hostile targets in the southwest of the city emerged.

Recently, Syrian air defences downed two Israeli missiles in the Kisweh region.

Over the past few years, the Israeli military has launched sporadic attacks against various targets on Syrian soil, in assaults slammed by Syria as attempts to boost terrorist groups who have been suffering heavy defeats on the battlefield with Syrian government forces.

The attacks happened after the Syrian government forces announced that the last extremist stronghold in southern Damascus, the al-Hajar al-Aswad District, has been recaptured, giving the Syrian army complete control over Damascus and its suburbs , for the fist time in seven years.

Previously, Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview that Syria will continue beefing up its air defenses.

Assad said back then that he did not exclude another US strike anytime as long as the United States continued to violate international laws.

The coalition led by the US under the pretext of fighting Daesh (ISIS) admitted its' responsibility for killing 77 civilians in Raqqa province last summer.

The British Daily Mail newspaper revealed that Amnesty International mentioned in a report published last June that 24 children and 25 women were among the 77 civilians killed in four massacres committed by warplanes of the “International Coalition” last summer in Raqqa.
