Iran Press/ Iran news:Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed Faisal Mekdad as the country's new foreign minister on November 22, following the late Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem.
Faisal Mekdad joined the Syrian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in 1995, serving on various UN committees and representing Syria at many international conferences.
He was appointed Syrian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 2003, which he held until 2006.
