Iran Press /Iran News : Parvin Mirmiran, Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences and the head of Nutrition and Endocrine Research Center on Sunday said: "Metabolic syndrome includes a set of factors including obesity, hyperglycemia, blood lipids disorder, and hypertension that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and ultimately death."
The professor stated, "In past decades, due to changing lifestyles, we have witnessed an increase in the number of people with metabolic syndrome, as a result, growing of disabilities and deaths."
Referring that the children and juveniles are vulnerable to metabolic syndrome, Mirmiran believes this problem may reduce the social productivity of those children inflicted
She further emphasized the importance of identifying the causative factors of metabolic syndrome in order to find ways to prevent it.
Nutrition Research Center of the Institute of Endocrine Sciences and Metabolism at University of shahid Beheshti recently has been able to prove the effects of nutrition on prevention of non-communicable disease (NCD) in children based on the results of Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study.
