Tehran (IP) - Iranian Minister of Petroleum stressed the startup companies’ major role in the development of the country’s petroleum industry, describing them as an ecosystem and a place to apply the best result out of cooperation between science and industry.

Iran PressIran News: Speaking at a gathering ceremony of knowledge-based companies and startups in the petroleum industry for providing technological needs on Sunday, Bijan Zangeneh said that supporting the knowledge-based companies is one of the goals he has always pursued but the mechanism needed to be developed. 

“At the moment we have highly educated people in the oil industry,” said Zangeneh, adding: "We gathered research teams in oil fields and emphasized on the recycling process in the oil industry.” 

“We gathered the science and industry in the oil field together. At this point, we needed an ecosystem, as a place to apply the best result out if science and industry. In this regard, startups can give us a hand in so many fields ‌for instance in combating fuel smuggling," the official noted.

Zangeneh elsewhere stated: "We dedicated around 18 hectares in Ray (near the capital of Tehran) to startups as one of the first steps in supporting them. With the help of the Iran National Innovative Fund (INIF) and Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, we dedicated 100 billion tomans for the startups. Of course, this is only the start point and more investment will be available too.”

Minister of Science, Research, and Technology Mansour Gholami also said at the event that investing in the employment of the young educated people is an increasing investment field in the science ministry.

Gathering ceremony of knowledge-based companies and startups in the petroleum industry for providing technological needs kicked off in the petroleum research center in Tehran on Sunday with the attendance of 100 startups.

40 meetings are going to be held during the 3 days of the event and 250 knowledge-based companies are attending the exhibition.

This event is the 10th version of the type held by the INIF. The previous ones were in different fields of space and robotics.

Earlier, the first Iranian Oil Ministry's innovation event, 'Petroleum Takeoff', focusing on identifying technology areas in supply and demand, inaugurated in Tehran on Monday, December 16, with the participation of oil and gas, and petrochemical companies.
