Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani

Tehran (IP)- The Speaker of Iran's Parliament has said there is no problem with Iran's behaviour but the problem, in fact, lies in the threat posed by the US which has forced a powerful European state to toe its line.

Iran PressIran news: The Speaker of the Majlis (parliament), Ali Larijani, also criticized the actions of the EU3 vis-a-vis the Iran nuclear deal as well as their efforts to activate article 36 of the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Larijani said it is regrettable that a European minister has frankly admitted the fact that United States threatened Europe with punitive import tariffs of 25 percent on European cars, unless the E3 initiated proceedings against Iran and activated the trigger mechanism -- the dispute resolution mechanism -- which is part of the JCPOA.

Washington's threat provides further insight into Donald Trump’s modus operandi with Europe – in effect using punitive tariffs, threats of economic sanctions and the power of the dollar to try to force Europe to follow US foreign policy.

Larijani stressed there is no problem with Iran's behaviour but the problem lies in the threat posed by the US which has forced a powerful European state to toe its line.

The top Iranian official warned that the country is not going to threaten anyone but if Europe adopts an unfair approach regarding article 36 of JCPOA, for any reason, the Islamic Republic of Iran will seriously consider whether it is going to continue cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Larijani added: "We are by no means the initiator but we will act according to the behaviour of the other side, so they better act fairly."
