South Korean authorities on Tuesday detained a man after two police officers were stabbed outside the compound housing the presidential office in the capital Seoul, news agency Yonhap reported.

Yonhap reported that one officer was stabbed in the stomach and another in the left arm and were being treated in hospital. The report said a man in his 70s had been apprehended.

The stabbing took place outside the compound where the Ministry of National Defence and the presidential office are located.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol moved the presidential office to its current location in the district of Yongsan in central Seoul from the Blue House which had served as the presidential residence between 1948 and 2022. 219
