Iran Press/Asia: Despite ongoing negotiations and tribal meetings, no substantial progress has been made, leaving the residents of the area in a difficult situation.
The closure of the highway connecting Parachinar to Peshawar has severely impacted daily life, exacerbated by harsh winter conditions, snowfall, and shortages of essential supplies such as food and medicine.
Among the demonstrators are numerous children who have lost their parents in terrorist attacks in the district, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing unrest.
Several rounds of Jirga meetings (Tribal Lords meetings) have been held to restore peace and reopen the roads.
One of the tribal chiefs expressed optimism, stating that a peace agreement is expected to be signed soon, potentially leading to the reopening of the routes. However, no official confirmation has been provided.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif addressed the media in Peshawar on Monday, acknowledging the loss of lives due to the deteriorating situation in Kurram district. He emphasized that both sides are currently adhering to a ceasefire and that efforts are underway to resolve the problem, which he said dates back 130 years.
"Weapons are being brought into this area from Afghanistan," Saif noted. "Once both sides surrender their arms, the routes will be reopened."
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have also escalated in recent days, leading to casualties on both sides.
