Snow storms from Siberia struck Britain and Ireland on Thursday, trapping several hundred motorists on roads in Scotland

This is the worst weather since 1991.

With up to 90 cm of snow and temperatures as low as minus 10.3 Celsius in Scotland, Britain and Ireland issued their most severe red warnings which advise people to stay at home.

Hundreds of people were stuck in their cars on the M80 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Flights and trains were canceled across both Britain and Ireland.

More snow is expected Thursday and Friday.

According to the UK national weather service (Met Office), freezing winds from northern Scandinavia and northwest Russia mean temperatures will struggle to get above 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and plunge as low as minus 8 degrees Celsius (17 degrees Fahrenheit) at night.

The cold spell is dubbed the “the Beast from the East”.
