Samarkand(IP)-The 22nd Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization kicked off on Friday morning in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with Iran's President in attendance.

Iran PressAsia: Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, traveled to Uzbekistan on Wednesday at the official invitation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shaukat Mirzayev, at the head of a high-level political and economic delegation, for an official bilateral meeting and also to participate in the 22nd Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. 

Earlier, on Wednesday night, the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization stressed that the regional position of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a powerful country with stability and security is essential for the organization.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran also called President's trip to Uzbekistan an important and lasting development in strengthening the regional convergence policy.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, before heading to Uzbekistan to participate in the SCO Summit meeting, Iran's President said strengthening the neighborhood policy, convergence, solidarity, and deepening multilateralism were among his trip to Uzbekistan aims.
