Iran criticized the unilateral and inhumane sanctions imposed by the United Nations, saying the sanctions deprived the Islamic Republic of access to the Corona vaccine at an appropriate time.

Iran PressAmerica: Iran's statement to the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (also known as the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee or SOCHUM or C3) was read out by Mohammad Ghorbanpour, one of the diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the United Nations on Thursday.

It is unfortunate that some countries arrogantly claim that humanitarian goods are exempt from sanctions, while this claim is a terrible lie.

In the statement, Iran reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the principles and goals of the UN Charter, including respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.

"We believe in the non-selective view of human rights and the non-politicization of human rights. Widespread human rights abuses have become a habit. Examples of this view can be seen in Palestine and the seemingly endless war in Yemen."

Declaring its strong support for the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, Iran's statement said that the tyrannical Zionist regime has carried out ethnic cleansing in the occupied Palestinian territories.

"Unfortunately, the world is witnessing horrific crimes committed by the so-called flag-bearers of human rights against indigenous peoples. Recent revelations in Canada of crimes against Indigenous peoples prove that the methods of occupying the lands through ethnic cleansing by the occupying regime of Israel have either become normal or accepted," it said.

Referring to the recent developments in Afghanistan and the chaotic defeat and withdrawal of the United States from the country, the statement added that Iran is seriously concerned about the situation of the Afghan people, especially those displaced inside and neighboring countries and in dire need of international support.

"The situation in Afghanistan clearly shows the true face of not only the United States but also those who, two decades ago, attacked the war-torn country under the pretext of fighting terrorism and protecting human rights."

"We condemn any attempt by some countries to prevent the development of developing countries and to maintain their full monopoly on international relations," Iran said, emphasizing the right to development as a fundamental human right for developing countries.

"We strongly condemn the unilateral and inhumane coercive actions by the United States, especially during the Corona epidemic. These illegal sanctions, carried out by the United States with the support of its allies, are aimed at confiscating Iranian resources abroad and preventing legitimate trade of the third countries with Iran, especially on the supply of humanitarian goods to Iran," the statement added, referring to US inhumane sanctions against Iran during the Corona epidemic.

"These inhumane and illegal unilateral coercive measures deprived Iran of access to the Corona vaccine. It is unfortunate that some countries brazenly claim that humanitarian goods are exempt from sanctions, and that is a terrible lie."

Unilateral inhumane and illegal coercive measures deprived even the Islamic Republic of Iran of access to the Corona vaccine. It is unfortunate that some countries arrogantly claim that humanitarian goods are exempt from sanctions, and this is a terrible lie.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that dialogue and cooperation based on mutual respect and equality is the only way to ensure the promotion and protection of human rights at the international level. The use of human rights as a weapon, the adoption of a selective approach, and double standards do not help to achieve our common goals," it concluded.
