Iran Press/Europe: "We call on all countries committed to the UN Charter to bear in mind that, according to Resolution 2231, the JCPOA is aimed at boosting economic and trade ties and cooperation with Iran," Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Vienna-based international organizations Mikhail Ulyanov said.
The Russian diplomat made the remarks at a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors on Tuesday, TASS reported.
"We are confident that the JCPOA is strong enough and the remaining members are capable of overcoming the difficulties that have emerged," he said. "The need to restore the balance of interests enshrined in the JCPOA is obvious. Russia will continue to work together with its JCPOA partners and other interested countries," Ulyanov added.
According to Ulyanov, this principle should be respected regardless of pressure that lacks legal basis.
On March 5th, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araghchi said European countries should take practical steps to protect the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA).
Iran nuclear deal issue
On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump called the nuclear accord - or (JCPOA) as it is formally known - a "horrible, one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made" and withdraw from the deal.
Washington afterward returned the sanctions that it had lifted under the accord.
The European signatories, though, issued a statement afterward, reasserting their commitment to the JCPOA.
Tehran has said it would make a decision on its future role in the nuclear agreement in the coming weeks following negotiations with the other signatories to the deal.
EU powers have scrambled to save the JCPOA and protect their businesses in Iran, after re-imposition of US sanctions. 101/201
