Russia is concerned over the attempts to pressure the Belarusian government and to meddle in Belarusian affairs from abroad, Russian Ambassador to the USA Anatoly Antonov has said.

Iran PressEurope: "Belarus is our ally, partner in the Union State, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States," he stressed during a session of the US-Russia Business Council.

His address was published on the embassy’s Facebook on Thursday.

"We are concerned about the attempts to put pressure on the Belarusian leadership and destabilize the situation in the country. We consider unacceptable any outside interference in the internal affairs of the republic, any support for anti-constitutional actions."

"Belarusians can figure out the current situation on their own. It is important that the country's leadership is trying to enter into dialogue with citizens protesting against what they consider an infringement of their rights," Antonov noted.

Unauthorized opposition rallies have been continuing in Belarus for more than two months since the 9 August presidential elections in the country, following which Alexander Lukashenko declared victory in seeking a sixth term.
