Iran Press/ Iran news: Rashti Duzi is one of the valuable handicrafts of Gilan province in northern Iran.
The city of Rasht, the capital of Gilan province, was registered as the national city of Rashti Duzi in 2021.
Rashti Duzi used to be called 'Rashti crocheting' in the past, and according to Professor Abbas Ali Bipanah, one of Rashti Duzi's masters, the art became popular when a person named Hossein Rashti engraved his name on a design and named it Rashti Duzi.
These products were so popular in Europe that the cover of tombstones of the European kings and elders were mostly chosen from Iranian textiles and carpets. A piece of the most excellent Sassanid fabric decorated with crocheting work is kept in Hermitage Museum.
Zahra Alipour, the Gilani artist, told IranPress News Agency, Rashti Duzi Like many other handicrafts has a very long history. The specialists believe that it to go back to 550 to 330 B.C. This beautiful art flourishes in the Qajar era.
A very valuable example of Rashti Duzi is the tent of Mohammad Shah (King) Qajar, which is now exhibited in the Cleveland Museum of Art in the United States.
