IRAN (IP) - Iranian President said the restoration of Lake Urmia is a national concern and the water transfer tunnel project is the most important plan for the lake.

Iran PressIran News: Lake Urmia is the most important tourist attraction of West Azerbaijan province. The restoration of the lake, in addition to preserving the environment and continuity of life, also helps develop tourism in northwest Iran.

Ebrahim Raisi Friday morning at the opening ceremony of the mega water transfer project to Lake Urmia considered unity in the region as another infrastructure of development and said: "Empathy and unity between ethnic groups and religions in this region play an essential role in creating security and, as a result, the development of northwest cities."

The President said: "The restoration of Lake Urmia is a national concern and the water transfer tunnel project is the most important plan for the restoration of this lake, which was opened today, and the efforts to restore this lake must continue seriously."

While thanking the previous government and all the workers, engineers, and hard workers who played a role in the opening of this project, the president added: "Khatam-ul-Anbiya headquarters made diligent efforts in the real sense of the implementation of the project and worked day and night to carry out this project in a timely and technical manner."

Raisi, pointing to the serious determination of the administration to restore Urmia Lake and finish its half-finished projects, said: "All administration bodies, especially the Ministry of Energy and the minister himself, were working around the clock to complete the project."
