Iran Press/ Iran news: On the "16th of Azar" (today in the Persian calendar) which is known as Student Day, upon the invitation of the student organizations of the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, attend a separate meeting with professors and students at the University.
16 Azar (December 7) has become the official Student Day in Iran after the 1979 Revolution. On that day, December 7, 1953 (16 Azar 1332 in the Iranian calendar), three students of the University of Tehran were murdered by Pahlavi-Regime security forces. Every year there are local demonstrations at many universities organized by students.
After attending the Sharif University of Technology, the President visited the exhibition of technological achievements of Sharif Innovation Center with the slogan of "Innovation Driving Force; The Manifestation of Self-Confidence."
During this visit, President Raisi was briefed on the latest achievements of Sharif University's professors and students in various fields of aerospace, automotive industry, telecommunications, water and energy, solar power plants, environment, agriculture, electronics and medicine, and medical equipment.
During this visit, while presenting a report on their achievements, the young researchers shared their suggestions and views with the President, and Raisi also underlined the administration's support for their technological activities.
The President attended Sharif University by inviting five major student organizations at University.
The letter of the secretaries-general of the five organizations of the Office for Consolidation of Unity, the Union of Islamic Society, the Union of Islamic Students' Associations, and the Union of Student Justice Movement and Student Basij to the President, published on Monday.
The letter further states: "The position of students for the sake of changes in the socio-political atmosphere of society is not hidden from anyone and their direct impact on the future of the Islamic Republic is undeniable."
A continuous dialogue with the concerned students of the revolution can undoubtedly help the thirteenth administration to continue on its path towards the realization of the true ideals of the Islamic Revolution and the excellence of the Islamic Republic, The letter added.
Student Day is commemorated every year in Iran by student movements.
Ahmad Ghandchi, who belonged to Jebhe-e Melli (National Front), and two other students, Shariat-Razavi and Bozorgnia, were killed when the Shah's security forces opened fire on the students of the University of Tehran going on strike in protest at the resumption of Iran's relations with Britain and then US President Nixon's visit to Iran, following the coup d'état of 1953, also known in Iran as the 28 Mordad coup d'état.
The coup d’état saw the overthrow of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh in favor of strengthening the monarchical rule of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
