Tehran (IP) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has expressed his satisfaction with the 11th parliamentary and Assembly of Experts election process.

Iran Press/Iran news: Attending the Election Headquarters of the Interior Ministry, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said: "Fortunately, there is a direct connection between the Ministry of Interior's election headquarters and all constituencies online. It is a positive thing to know online the number of people who have voted and how many people are voting in Tehran and all the provinces. This is a very good and valuable work that has been done. Identification is done electronically. We hope that by 2021 the entire election process will be electronic."

Iranian President appreciated the hard work of all people working for holding the parliamentary and mid-term Council of Experts elections, saying, "The people of Iran will disappoint the enemies today more than before by their massive turnout”.

Rouhani added: "I want to recall the first parliamentary election in 1979. 40 years have passed since that day, and the 11th round of parliamentary elections are well underway, despite many difficulties we have faced in these 40 years. All elections were held on time. This is a great honour for our country. Imam Khomeini was very sensitive to elections being held on time."

The president expressed hope that people through their participation in the elections would achieve another victory and disappoint the enemies.

Polling stations in 207 constituencies across Iran opened at 8:00 am local time. After the polls close, counting will begin straight away.

Nearly 58 million people are eligible to vote on preselected lists of candidates in Iran's 11th parliamentary elections.

The Iranian Parliament, officially known as the Islamic Consultative Assembly, is a 290-seat legislative body with 207 constituencies. Its members are elected every four years, and former and current members can be re-elected.

On the other hand, the Assembly of Experts of the Leadership is a deliberative body of 88 theologians tasked with choosing the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. Members of the Assembly are elected every eight years.
