Iran Press/Iran news: Visiting Malayer is both relaxational and exciting, with wonderful natural views. Tourists who visit this city, can see its many historic sites, including the ancient Zoroastrian fire temple of "Noushijan."
Malayer is famous in Iran as a centre of grape cultivation as well as being a furniture manufacturing centre, Iran Press reported.
Noushijan Hill, is located 15 kilometres northwest of the city of Malayer, and there are an ancient temple and an ancient castle on top of that hill. The historic site is estimated to be 2800 years old.
The 40-metre high castle or fortress on top of the hill boasts a number of rooms, storage rooms, a reception hall full of columns, impenetrable walls, and a secret tunnel. And there are two temples on that site; a western temple and a central temple.
Archaeologists have carried out extensive excavations at this ancient site and research has shown that Noushijan Hill has three layers, with the most ancient layer belonging to the Medes, the second layer belonging to the Achaemenid period, and the third layer dating from the Sassanid period.
Archaeologists have also found silver coins at this site, and this is thought to be one of the earliest examples of coins in human civilization anywhere in the world.
