Tehran (IP) - Iran's Parliament speaker said: "The role of the trade unions is very prominent in all political, economic, and cultural fields of the country."

Iran PressIran news: The commemoration of the National Day and Trade Union Week was held on Saturday, July 24th, in the IRIB conference hall with the presence of the Speaker of the Parliament, some of the Parliament's representatives, and some members of the trade unions.

Referring to the role of trade unions during the holy defense, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Parliament speaker, said: "The martyrs of trade unions took effective steps to preserve the country."

The speaker of the parliament stressed: "We could not take good advantage of the capacity of the trade unions, and the communications between the parliament and the trade unions is not as it should be."

Pointing out that the population of the trade unions is about 30 million, he added: "The trade unions sacrificed their lives and property in the last year's unrests and took steps for the security of Iran, and I understand all these efforts."

Following the ceremony, some heads of trade unions expressed their views and exchanged opinions.
