Speaking after the cabinet's weekly meeting with the reporters, the Vice President for Strategic Affairs says that the only negotiations with the US will not solve Iran's problem, and the solution is to lift sanctions.

Why it Matters:

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump announced his readiness to talk to Iran and meet with the Iranian president, but many analysts believe that mere negotiation will not solve any problem for Iran and that the United States must show its goodwill and lift some of the sanctions to start the dialogue.

What He Is Saying:
Zarif, in response to a question about the ratification of the FATF in Iran, said: The ratification of the FATF is up to the government and the Expediency Discernment Council. We must remove the obstacles. Sanctions are an obstacle, and anyone who says that these are not obstacles does not know about global trade. We comply with all FATF regulations in our regulations.

The Vice President emphasized that we are actively combating illegal trade in our country. Our domestic laws condemn money laundering, and there is no reason our businesses should suffer in international trade due to the lack of ratification of FATF regulations, which puts them at a disadvantage compared to their trade rivals.

He also highlighted the effect of Iran's FATF membership on its support for the resistance, stating that the interests of the resistance align with our own.

Key Points:

  • Negotiations with the U.S. will not resolve our issues.
  • Our solution is to lift sanctions.
  • We need to remove the obstacles hindering our relations with countries around the world.
  • No one has hope for the U.S.

What Is Next:
This afternoon, Zarif will go to Iraq at the invitation of The leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, Ammar Hakim on Wednesday, to participate in a seminar.
