Tehran (IP) - After one month since the new water year, Iran still does not have any supply from the Hirmand River, Isa Bozorgzadeh spokesman for Iran water industry said.

Iran PressIran news: Isa Bozorgzadeh, the spokesperson of the water industry, in a press conference on Monday, said: "The position of semi-wells is not good, the current amount of reserves of semi-wells is 48 million cubic meters, which has decreased by 69% compared to the same time last year, and now the filling rate of semi-wells is only 3%."

He added: "Currently, we have the most active water projects in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, and most of the human forces are in this province so we do not have a challenge for citizens in the province to supply water."

Referring to "water dialogues" as a plan for the first time in the country by the Ministry of Energy, Bozorgzadeh said that one of the goals of these dialogues is to increase water knowledge in society and enrich the theorizing in the water sector.

The spokesperson of the water industry announced that for this month: 100 issues have been raised for these dialogues.

While pointing to the increase in the water budget compared to the last two years, he said: The budget for water projects has increased by 135%.

Under the 1972 Hirmand-River Water Treaty, Iran is entitled to 820 million cubic meters of water per year, equal to about 26 cubic meters per second, subject to monthly and seasonal fluctuations.  

Iran's Foreign Minister demanded Iran's water rights from Hirmand in a phone call with Amir Khan Muttaqi on Wednesday, May 17.

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, on Thursday, May 18, visited Sistan and Baluchestan, southeast of Iran, urging Afghan officials to urgently grant the water rights of the people of Sistan and Baluchestan from the Hirmand River. 

In mid-Aqust, an Iranian technical delegation visited the upstream water measuring station of the Kajaki Dam on the Hirmand River.

This was the first time the Iranian delegation visited the Hirmand River since the establishment of water commissioners and the signing of the Hirmand-River Water Treaty in 1972.    

After measuring the water level of the Hirmand River, the Iranian expert delegation requested Iran's water rights during their visit to the water measuring upward station.
