Iran Press/ Middle East: The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) kicked off in Doha, Qatar on Monday in the presence of the UN's Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Taking part in LDC5, Mohsen Mansouri considered the unfair and one-sided management of some countries mingled with colonialism as the factors that contributed to the poverty of the least developed and oppressed countries.
Noting that the wealth accumulated in some countries came pot of the violated rights and poverty of some other countries, Mansouri said the least developed countries enjoyed special capacities in terms of human and natural resources, which could provide them with a normal life.
He stressed that UN mechanisms like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund must help the least developed countries so that they could get out of their status quo.
Pointing to the progress of some independent countries like Iran, the vice president noted that strengthening development-oriented policies, avoiding politicizing technical issues, and supporting inclusive cooperation through constant efforts to shore up multilateral decision- and policy-making were inevitable.
The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to accelerate sustainable development in the places where international assistance is needed the most - and to tap the full potential of the Least Developed Countries helping them make progress on the road to prosperity.
