Iran Press/Asia: Mullah Akhund Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the Kashmir region, built during the Mongolian era.
Mullah Shah Badakhshi was one of the scholars of the Mongolian era and 'Dara Shikoh' was the son of 'Shah Jahan', the Mongol emperor.
The aim of building the mosque, in addition to praying in it, was to teach the Qur'an and promote religious teachings.
The mosque is an outstanding example of works of art based on Iranian architecture.
The historical mosque of Mullah Akhund has always been of interest to tourists and is a protected historical monument in the Kashmir region.
Iranian architectural style can still be seen on the walls of the Mosque and many Persian scripts can be seen in on the walls.
