Tehran(IP)-The Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran spokesperson announced the discovery of more than 29,000 unauthorized weapons of defense and shotguns in the country since the beginning of this year.

Iran PressIran News: According to Iran Press, Brigadier General Mahdi Hajian, said regarding the amount of smuggled weapons and ammunition detected in Iran this year, stated: "Since 2018, after the riots of the same year, the discovery of arms and ammunition smuggled in the country has increased significantly,  and for this reason, the anti-arms and ammunition smuggling  headquarter was established in the Islamic Republic of Iran's police command."

Emphasizing that with the investigations conducted, it has been found out that weapons and ammunition were smuggled through the northwestern, western, and southern borders of the country, he stated: Based on the obtained statistics as well as operational information that our colleagues have gained throughout the country, especially the border guard command of the Islamic Republic of Iran, since the beginning of this year (march 21, 2022) to November 21 of this year), more than 29,000 unauthorized shotguns weapons and defensive weapons have been discovered, which shows an 11% increase compared to the same period last year.

Brigadier General Mahdi Hajian also stated: Of course, the number of discoveries has increased significantly since June of this year (discovery of 9,000 combat weapons and more than 7,000 melee weapons made by some countries, especially criminal America), hence the meetings with the police of neighboring countries in order to prevent arms and ammunition smuggling and Thank God, we also achieved good results.

Hajian said: A large number of these people who were active in gangs in the country were arrested and handed over to judicial authorities.

This senior police official stated that most of the weapons and ammunition are imported into the country from the borders of West Azarbaijan, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, and the southern provinces, and noted that during the last two months (this year) thanks to the information of his colleagues, 8,000 combat and hunting weapons were discovered, and the people who intended to bring weapons and ammunition into the country illegally were arrested and handed over to the judicial authorities.
