As of 6 pm on Sunday, 15,049 people have registered to run in the Islamic city council elections, the spokesman of Iran's Election Headquarters announced.

Iran PressIran News: Seyed Esmaeil Mousavi said that thirty percent of city council nominees used electronic methods, including cell phones (15 percent) and personal computers (15 percent), to register.

He added: 90% of the nominees by the end of the fifth day of registration are men and 10% are women.

Mousavi went on to say that 56.1 percent of registrants have a bachelor's degree, 29.7 percent have a master's degree and 2.8 percent have a doctorate.

"8.6% of these people are under 30 years old, 41.7% of them are between 31 and 40 years old, 31% of these people are between 41 and 50 years old, 15% are between 51 and 60 years old, 3.4% are between 61 and 70 years old and 0 3.3% (three-tenths of a percent) are people over 70 years old," he stated.

He emphasized: 15% of the registrants have a history of membership in the council.

Registration of candidates for the elections of Islamic councils of cities has started on March 11 and will continue for another three days. The registration of candidates for membership in Islamic councils of villages will begin on April 6 in the governorates.

Elections for the sixth term of the Islamic councils of cities and villages will be held on 28 June.
