Iran Press/Iran news: Spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry said the Late Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani was a world champion in the fight against terrorism, violence, and extremism, although some foreign media want to portray him differently.
Speaking at a news conference on Sunday 5 January, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi honored the memory of martyred Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, saying: "Lt. Gen. Soleimani was the beloved Commander of the Hearts, Commander of the Counter-Terrorism and a model for nations in the fight against violence, terror and extremism."
He praised the Iraqi government and nation for the funeral of the martyrs of the resistance and condoled the martyrdom of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and his colleagues by the US terrorist attack to the Iraqi nation and government.
"On behalf of myself and the Foreign Ministry, I congratulate the appointment of Brigadier General Ismail Ghaani as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Forces, and I wish him more success. Foreign Ministry will cooperate with Brigadier General Ghaani and we will work together to advance the goals of the Islamic Republic."
Commenting on the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the assassination of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, Mousavi said: "We have been in contact with the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council. Foreign Minister Zarif was in touch with foreign officials yesterday, reviewing the post-assassination developments, declaring Iran's position and insisting that it was a ruthless, stupid and heinous act by the US and that the US is responsible for all consequences, and possible circumstances."
This Foreign Ministry Spokesman presser held after Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani was assassinated along with several senior members of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Friday Morning 3 January at Baghdad International airport.
Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani was awarded by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as the first Iranian military official to hold Iran’s highest military order, the Order of Zulfaqar after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. 104/219
