Currently, Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk comes first on the global list with a net worth of $219 billion.

This year, he is higher than very rich people like Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and American businessman and investor Warren Buffett. While these names are listed among the richest people in the world, other people rank among the richest people in Canada.

Toby Lotke

Position in Canada: 10

 

Net worth: US$5 billion

Probably one of Canada's best-known billionaires, Tobi Lutke is the co-founder and CEO of the Canadian e-commerce company Shopify.

He developed the platform after he tried to open an online store with a friend but couldn't find the software he liked. In 2021, the company had sales of $4.6 billion.

Although she grew up in Germany, she moved to Canada in 2003 in Whistler after meeting her husband, who lived in Ottawa.

 

Alain Bouchard

Position in Canada: 9

 

Net worth: US$5 billion

Alain Bouchard opened a single store in Quebec in 1980 before founding the Alimentation Couche-Tard convenience store empire.

At age 73, he still oversees the company, which now has $54 billion in sales and 14,000 stores worldwide.

Forbes says Bouchard got her start stocking shelves at her brother's Pratt store.

 

Dennis "Chip" Wilson

Position in Canada: 8

 

Net worth: $5.3 billion

Sportswear lovers can thank Dennis "Chip" Wilson for his Lululemon leggings.

The University of Calgary alum founded Lululemon and opened a Vancouver store in 2000.

He became the CEO of the company for a while and in 2007 he took over the activewear business.

As of 2015, Wilson had no direct ties to Lulumenon, but he remains its largest individual shareholder with an 8 percent stake. He also has stakes in Anta Sports and Amer Sports (which owns brands like Wilson).

 

Mark Shainberg

Net worth: $5.3 billion

Although his exact position among Canada's richest people has varied over the years, Mark Scheinberg is one of the country's richest billionaires.

In the early 2000s, he co-founded the online poker card PokerStars with his father, which became the world's largest online poker company.

He invested the proceeds from the subsequent sale of the business in luxury hospitality and real estate assets, including a yacht complex, a historic hotel in Spain and a luxury resort in Costa Rica.

 

Anthony von Mandel

Net worth: US$8.4 billion

The Canuck billionaire created White Claw Hard Seltzer and Mike's Hard Lemonade, and subsequently became what Forbes calls "a leading figure in Canada's alcohol import and distribution sector."

His career began in the 1970s when he worked as an importer in the Canadian wine business.

In 2021, his American business generated more than $3 billion in revenue in the United States alone.

 

Joseph Tsai

Location in Canada: 5

Net worth: US$8.4 billion

You know someone is rich when they own a professional basketball team (Brooklyn Nets), but that's not how the majority of people make their money.

Joseph Tsai is the vice chairman and co-founder of Alibaba Group, as well as its second-largest shareholder.

Jack Ma, who is Alibaba Group's largest shareholder, met Tsai in 1999 and initially paid him just $50 a month.

As of 2022, both are billionaires.

While Tsai was born in Taiwan, she holds a Canadian passport. He now lives in Hong Kong.

 

David Cheriton

Talk about a smart move! David Cheriton is one of the richest people in Canada because he made his initial investment in Google.

He and Andreas von Bechtolsheim (who is now a billionaire) invested $100,000 in Google in the early days and have since become serious bankrollers.

Cheriton, 71, described by Forbes as a professional billionaire, was born in Canada and is the third of six children.

He is described as "frugal" in his personal life and has lived in the same house for 30 years, despite gradually becoming wealthier during this time.

The Toronto-based millionaire oversees business in many industries, including, web hosting and according to jesse-rasch Hedgewood.

In his collection, there are famous brands such as WebHosting.com, Hedgewood and InQuent Technologies.
