protests continue in Beirut, Lebanon

Protesters in Lebanon continued their gathering near the headquarters of the prime minister and parliament in central Beirut.

Iran PressMiddle East: The Lebanese demonstrators have taken to the streets since Thursday to protest against the economic condition. During the protests which were also continued on Friday, the protesters were chanting anti-government slogans.

A group of protesters gathered in front of the house of Lebanon's Prime Minister Sa'ad Hariri, Iran Press reported.

Lebanese schools and banks were also closed today.

Different cities in Lebanon, especially Beirut, have witnessed anti-government demonstrations since Thursday, in protest against the poor economic performance of Sa'ad al-Hariri's government, with rising cost of living, a stagnant economy,  and suggestions by the government that new taxes were going to be introduced.

Meanwhile, Raya al-Hassan, the Interior Minister, said the security forces have been ordered not to clash with the protesters, calling on all of the Lebanese parties to keep their unity in support of austerity measures.
