Hundreds of people attended in a ceremony to commemorate the 29th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's heart -rending demise in Lebanese Capital of Beirut.
A ceremony has been held in the Lebanese capital Beirut to mark the 28th anniversary of the passing of the founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini. The event was focused on Imam Khomeini's leading role in fighting oppression and promoting unity among Muslims.
Mohammad Fathali Iran's Ambassador to Beirut was among the key speakers and the organizers of the event.
Imam Khomeini (Rh) passed away on June3 1989) .He was an Iranian Shia Islam religious leader and politician. He was the founder of Iran as an Islamic republic and the leader of its 1979 Iranian Revolution that saw the overthrow of 2,500 years of Persian monarchy and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last King of Iran. Following the revolution, Imam Khomeini(Rh) became the country's then Leader, a position created in the constitution of the Islamic Republic as the highest-ranking political and religious authority of the nation, which he held until his death. He was succeeded by Sayyed Ali Khamenei on 4 June 1989.
