Tehran (IP)- A gunman opened fire at a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky on Monday, killing five and wounding six others, including a responding police officer, authorities said.

Iran PressAmerica: The attacker was killed not long after 8:30 a.m. ET shooting unfolded at Old National Bank in the 300 block of East Main Street, Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said.

The shooting is described as a case of workplace violence by someone believed to be an employee. The shooter may have had mental health issues, a federal law enforcement source said.

The wounded were rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, Humphrey said. Their conditions were unknown.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the shooter died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted wound.

Louisville police had earlier urged the public to stay away from the area.
