Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking at the Convention of Governors-General and Governors across the country on Monday, Hassan Rouhani said: "Enemies are trying to tell the world that Iran is an isolated island. We must disappoint them. We must prove them otherwise."
Describing 21 February, when parliamentary elections are due to be held, as an important day, Iranian president called on all the organizers of the election to concentrate their efforts on holding competitive elections and not to allow lines of voters to be short.
"One must not turn away from the ballot box and today is the day that we have to vote. I have issued the necessary orders, I have written the necessary letters, but we must all strive to make the election more competitive,” he added, according to the official website of President Rouhani.
He added: "People must be assured that their vote is not manipulated and that participation, supervision, health, and security of the elections is everyone’s duty."
"The first election was held in April 1979, which started with referendums; our system was based on the referendum and the system was founded on the referendum and it was the first referendum that determined our system to be the Islamic Republic," he added.
"It was the first referendum that told us to consider two things until the end of this system; Islam and republicanism. So the people voted for the Islamic Republic. We must all stand for Islam and republicanism, that is, for the public's consent, and the people's opinion and will. We voted for that," said the President.
In another part of his remarks, Rouhani reiterated: "Without exception, the legitimacy and basis of all of us is the constitution, and the constitution and all the laws and regulations are legitimate based on the votes of the people and of course, within the framework of the Islamic norms, which we all adhere to and we are fully committed to."
