Iran Press/ Middle East: Shereen Abu Aqleh, a veteran Palestinian-American reporter for Al Jazeera’s Arab service, was shot in the head on May 11 during an Israeli military attack in the occupied West Bank.
Palestinian Attorney General Akram Al Khatib announced the results of an investigation at a press conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
“The only shooting was by the occupying forces to kill,” he said.
Israel is likely to reject the findings as biased and unfounded.
Witnesses and Palestinian officials say she was hit by Israeli fire. Israel says it was shot dead during a battle between its troops and Palestinian extremists. It says only a ballistic analysis of the bullet – held by the Palestinian Authority – and the weapons of the soldiers can determine who fired the fatal shot.
Al-Khatib said his investigation had found no extremists in the area and said the army had seen Shereen Abu Aqleh and other journalists and knew they were journalists. At that time, everyone in the group was wearing protective vests and helmets. 219
