Iran Press/ Iran news: The attack targeted the Safad school in the Zeitoun neighborhood on Sunday, according to a medical source. Initially, the death toll was reported as six, but it has since risen to 11. Those injured in the bombing have been taken to al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City for treatment.
Witnesses described the aftermath of the airstrike as horrific, with bodies "torn apart and scattered due to the intensity of the Israeli bombing," as reported by Anadolu news agency. One of the school’s buildings, which had been providing refuge to hundreds of displaced individuals, was destroyed in the strike.
In response to the attack, the Palestinian Civil Defense Agency evacuated the school following threats of further strikes by Israeli forces.
Since the beginning of Israel's genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Israeli forces have targeted civic infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and places of worship, often claiming they are connected to Hamas. These claims have been met with skepticism and criticism from the international community.
Earlier, on August 10, Israeli airstrikes on the al-Tabi’in school in the al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City, which was sheltering over 6,000 displaced people, resulted in over 100 deaths and dozens of injuries.
The ongoing genocide has claimed the lives of at least 40,738 Palestinians, including many women and children, with 94,154 others wounded since the Israeli genocidal campaign began last October. Alongside the military campaign, Israel has imposed a near-total siege on Gaza, severely restricting the flow of essential supplies such as food, medicine, electricity, and water into the territory.
