Iran Press/Middle East: On the fifth anniversary of ISIS attack on Izadis of Sinjar, new President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani has asked the remaining PKK armed fighters to leave the region.
Barzani called for unity among the political parties in the Kurdistan Region and hope the constitution of Iraq would be implemented in full to prevent the reemergence of terror groups like ISIS and other tragic incidents like Shingal, in reference to the crimes against humanity committed by the militant group in northern Iraq and disputed territories.
Five years ago today, on 3 August 2014, the ISIS terror group - also known as Da’esh - launched an attack on the Sinjar region in Iraq’s northern Nineveh province. Sinjar was home to the majority of the world’s Izadi, a distinct religious group whose beliefs and practice span thousands of years.
On May 28, 2019, the Iraqi Kurdish parliament elected Nechirvan Barzani, the nephew and son-in-law of veteran leader Massud Barzani, as president of the autonomous region.
After occupying Sinjar, ISIS killed so many Izadis. Till now more that 80 mass graves have been discovered in the area. 360 thousand Izadis in Iraq have been displaced and 100 thousand of them are refugees to other countries.
Three thousand Izadi women and children are officially classified as disappeared. No one really knows what happened to them or whether they are alive today. 207/211/209
