Iran Press/ Middle East: 83 people have been killed in a fire at the coronavirus isolation ward of a hospital in Iraq, the second such deadly blaze in a COVID-19 unit in three months, state news agency INA said on Tuesday.
More than 100 were also injured in the fire that broke out at the al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the southern city of Nasiriya late on Monday, health officials said. The blaze was brought under control by civil defence teams.
The Iranian government expressed its readiness to provide medical aid to the wounded in the Al-Hussein Hospital accident in Dhi Qar province.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the Iraqi people in this painful incident, expressing hope for mercy for the victims, and a speedy recovery for those wounded.
While the Iraqi officials expressed their thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing that this measure embodies the humanitarian spirit and good-neighborliness of Iranian officials.
