Iranian rescue teams on full alert to be dispatched to Turkey quake-hit region

Tehran (IP) - In order to assist Turkey, Iranian rescue teams are on full alert and ready to be dispatched to the quake-hit region of Turkey if necessary.

Iran Press/Iran News: Following a powerful earthquake in eastern Turkey, with the order of Minister of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran Saeed Namaki, the Iranian Emergency Task Force's Special Operations Teams were on full alert to assist Turkey and to be sent to quake-hit areas if necessary, Iran Press reported.

This was communicated to the Turkish Ministry of Health by the Office of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran on Saturday morning.

At least 19 people died and more than 600 were injured in eastern Turkey after an earthquake rattled the region on Friday evening, according to authorities.

The 6.7- magnitude quake struck near the town of Sivrice, in eastern Elazig province, leading to the collapse of at least 10 buildings, Turkish Interior Minister Sulyman Soylu said. About 650 people were injured, but that number could rise further.

The earthquake has also been felt in the border areas of Iran and Turkey, Iraqi Kurdistan region, northern Syria, and Lebanon.
