Iran Press/ Iran news: The clinical trial of the fourth Iranian COVID-19 vaccine, dubbed as FAKHRAVAC (MIVAC) 19, kicked off in the presence of Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and Health Minister Saeed Namaki by injecting to the first volunteer.
The volunteer was the son of Martyr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was the head of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, which has developed the vaccine.
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the Head of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, was targeted in a multi-pronged terrorist attack by several assailants in the Absard city of Tehran Province Damavand County on November 27, 2020.
Speaking at the event, Karimi, the Manager of the Fakhra vaccine project said the Defense Ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, with the efforts made by Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, took specific measures to combat COVID-19 from the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak."
"Development of various coronavirus detection kits and specialized mobile laboratories are among these activities," he added. "The research and development process on the COVID-19 vaccine began in March 2020," said Karimi.
"The vaccine candidate reached the experimental production stage in June 2020," he stated.
"After the production process, then animal tests and various quality control tests were performed," The head of the vaccine project noted.
"After testing on more than 650 animals of different species, the effectiveness of this vaccine, which uses the inactivated virus technique, was proven" Karimi added.
"Construction of a mass-production factory of the vaccine has started, and we hope that if the clinical results are confirmed, it will hopefully enter the mass production phase by summer," he said.
"In the meeting that Martyr Fakhrizadeh had with the Minister of Health Saeed Namaki, the necessary arrangements were made to develop a vaccine at the highest international standards," he concluded.
