Tehran (IP) - President Raisi said that Iran and Uzbekistan persue the goal of doubling trade exchanges in the first step and planning to increase its volume to $3 billion.

Iran PressIran news: Ebrahim Raisi made the remarks in a meeting of top-ranking delegations of Iran and Uzbekistan here in Tehran on Sunday.

The meeting took place as part of a historic visit to Tehran by an Uzbek president after 20 years.

Raisi also referred to signing a preferential trade agreement between the two countries, calling on the concerned authorities to prepare a list of items for preferential trade within two weeks.

Raisi stated that Iran does not see any obstacles in the path of developing relations with neighboring countries and considered the development of relations between Iran and Uzbekistan to benefit the two nations and make the two countries stronger.   

For his part, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that a 20-year gap in a top-level visit to Tehran was caused by the negligence of former officials of both countries.

He said that his country "needs Iran’s successful experiences on the path to progress."

Mirziyoyev voiced Tashkent’s readiness for enhancement of cooperation with Tehran in different scientific, technological, transportation, energy, medical, and agricultural areas, calling on Iranian private sector actors to participate in economic projects of Uzbekistan.
