Iran: US not in a position to raise issues related to JCPOA

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry wrote in a twitter message that the United States is not at all in a position to raise the issues related to the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iran PressIran News: On the second anniversary of the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a twitter message on Thursday: "The United States hates JCPOA and withdrew from it. The US violates this agreement and punishes all those who remained committed to it. The United States is not at all in a position to raise the issues related to JCPOA."

The tweet came after the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently claimed that Washington was a participant in resolution 2231 and could call for an extension of Iran's arms embargo.

The UN Security Council's anti-Iran arms embargo was imposed in 2006 and 2007 to ban arms sales to Iran and arms exports from Iran.

Under the JCPOA agreement, Iran's arms embargo must be lifted on October 20, 2020, after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report confirmed that Iran's nuclear program was peaceful.

On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from JCPOA by violating Washington's obligations under this agreement and announced the return of nuclear sanctions against Iran.
