The 86th Iran-Turkey security sub-committee meeting was held in Agri province, Turkey, on Thursday to discuss border security issues.

According to Anadolu news agency ,the meeting was held in the presence of a Turkish delegation headed by Agri Governor General Suleiman Elban and Governor of Iran's Maku City Shahin Alizadeh in the city of Agri, Turkey.

Acting Governor General of Igdir province of Turkey Kamal Dorou as well as governors of Iranian cities of Maku and Chaldoran along with a number of officials from both countries were present in the meeting.

The governor general of Agri province appreciated Iranian officials' efforts for border security and expressed the hope that decisions made in the meeting would minimise the danger of terrorism in the border area.

The two countries' security sub-committee meeting is held every three months either in Iran or Turkey.
Iran and Turkey share a common border which stretches for  570 kilometers ,  a big part of which is mountainous areas.

Earlier on May 19 2018 ,the  Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, in a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, underlined the need for both countries to strengthen their cooperation in transportation and other sectors. He also called on Tehran and Ankara to coordinate closely to defend the rights of the oppressed Palestinians.

President Rouhani, who was in Istanbul to take part in an emergency OIC summit on Palestine, stressed: "More frequent consultations and closer ties between Tehran and Ankara would benefit both nations."

 

Furthermore ,on May 9,2018 , Ianian and Turkish officials have signed a border security agreement.

Commander of Iran’s Border Guards, Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei, and the general commander of Turkish Gendarmerie, Arif Çetin have signed a border security agreement in their meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

The two officials  also examined the condition of the shared border areas between Iran and Turkey.
