Iran Press/ Middle East: Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Syria earlier in the day from Türkiye, where he met with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, who announced on Wednesday that the quadripartite meeting of deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Syria and Iran would be held in Moscow next week.
In Damascus, Amir-Abdollahian met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who voiced his support for Iran's participation in the upcoming meetings, reported the state news agency SANA.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a joint press conference with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad in Damascus on Thursday night, said that unfortunately, the lack of attention by the international community to the problems caused by the sanctions and the years of terrorist war in Syria along with the lack of proper attention to the situation of the earthquake victims once again proved the double standard of some states.
Iran's top diplomat also said Tehran, which has backed Damascus during its 12 years of conflict, would join efforts to reconcile Syria and Turkey, which has long supported rebel groups opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Amir-Abdollahian stated: "We have no doubt that the Israeli regime will have no place in the future of the region, but the countries in the region will take strong steps in the direction of dialogue, interaction and cooperation."
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Thursday voiced support for the upcoming quadripartite meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Syria, Türkiye, Iran and Russia in Moscow.
Also, Amir-Abdollahian stated that we believe that the time has come for the withdrawal of foreign forces from the territory of Syria and all must respect territorial integrity of this country.
"We welcome the recent opening of Syrian relations with some countries," Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said.
The Syrian Foreign Minister, in this joint press conference with Amir-Abdollahian, said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries that participated in the search and rescue operations after the earthquake, and the first planes that arrived in Aleppo and Damascus were from Iran."
Referring to the presence of the Iranian Foreign Minister in Latakia and also the meeting of Amir -Abdollahian with Bashar Assad, Mekdad stated: "In this meeting, the discussion was not only about the earthquake, but all regional and international developments and the political stance of the two countries discussed and reviewed. The views of the two countries regarding global developments are similar to each other."
The Syrian Foreign Minister continued: "We have a serious interest in the issue of ending the occupation as soon as possible. Because the occupations have caused all the disasters for the governments and nations of the region. It is true that the resistance against terrorism lasted for 12 years, but the its effects are long-term and will take years to disappear. The economic sanctions faced by the Syrian nation are criminal and unacceptable from a human and moral point of view."
He also said: "All the sanctions against Iran and Russia are aggression against humanity and considered economic terrorism." 219
