Iran Press/Iran news: The member states of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, in its joint final statement of their 43rd summit held in Riyadh with China, once again raised the UAE's baseless claims about the three Iranian islands.
In the statement, the leaders expressed their support for all peaceful efforts, including the initiative and efforts of the United Arab Emirates to achieve a peaceful solution to the issue of the three islands (Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb islands in the Persian Gulf) through bilateral negotiations in compliance with the standards of international law.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanani, condemned the baseless accusations of the final statement of the 43rd meeting of the heads of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, calling the issuance of such statements a repetition of the failed policy of Iranophobia.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out the huge costs of the destructive policies of some members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council on the region and asked the council to revise their regional policies and choose a constructive path.
Kanani also rejected the council's statement regarding Iran's nuclear program and added: "The countries that tried hard to defeat the nuclear agreement, now without paying attention to Iran's full adherence to the JCPOA and international laws, object to Iran's legitimate actions."
Kanani also pointed to the meeting of the Chinese ambassador with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia and the Pacific on Saturday and said that in the meeting strong dissatisfaction was expressed regarding the joint statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and China.
He emphasized Iran’s inseparable sovereignty over Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb islands in the Persian Gulf.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian also reacted to the statement.
"We have no qualms about the necessity of other parties respecting Iran's territorial integrity," Amirabdollahian tweeted.
"The three islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf are inseparable parts of Iranian soil and eternally belong to this motherland," the tweet reads.
