Iran Press/ Iran news: In a ceremony in the central city of Isfahan, Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi and Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami inaugurated the production line of Kowthar at Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Company, a firm affiliated to the defense ministry’s Aviation Industries Organization.
"Soon the needed number of this plane will be produced and put at the service of the Air Force," Iran's minister of defense said at a ceremony launching the plane's production, which was shown on television, Tasnim news agency reported.
According to the Defense Ministry’s Public Relations Department, the production of each Kowthar jet would save the country around $16.5 million.
General Hatami described the project as “the height of the proficiency of Iran's stalwart sons" in face of sanctions imposed by the enemy.
The development has satisfied one of the most vital needs of the country’s military aviation industry, he added, calling it “the very symbol of fighting the [global] arrogance and standing against the excessive demands of the imperial system, which is being led by the Great Satan, US.
“Today, we declare proudly that we spare no effort in obtaining peaceful defensive technologies to defend our national security, the values of the Islamic Revolution, and the boundaries of our country,” Hatami noted.
“The enemies’ psychological warfare, propagandist blackmail, and economic sanctions” had no effect on the lively trend of advancing the country’s deterrent capabilities, the defense chief concluded.
Iran unveiled the homegrown fighter jet in August. Capable of carrying various weapons, the aircraft is used for short aerial support missions.

The experts of the Air Industry Organization of the Ministry of Defense with participation of other industrial organizations of the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force, universities and knowledge-based companies, unveiled the jet fighter.
‘Kowthar’ is an advanced fighter jet with a Close Air Support (CAS) role that has made Iran one of the few countries with the know-how of designing and manufacturing such jets equipped with 4th generation avionic and fire-control systems.
The jet will be mass-produced with one-seat and two-seat, the latter of which can be used for both military and training purposes.
The twin-engined, two-seat Kowthar jet successfully ran through test-flights on August 21 in the presence of President Rouhani. 101/202
