Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in a phone call with Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, on Thursday indicated that his country is striving to strengthen the nuclear deal.
During the phone call that was initiated by President Charles Michel on Thursday, President Hassan Rouhani said, "Iran is ready to cooperate more closely with the European Union and we believe that the opportunity for cooperation should not be lost," Iran Press reported.
Rouhani described Iran's five steps in reducing its Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) commitment as restoring balance, stating, "Iran will continue to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)."
During the phone call, President of the European Council expressed his condolences over recent incidents in Iran, saying, "The JCPOA was the result of a 10-year negotiation and the EU will do its best to save the agreement."
The President of the European Council also praised Iran's cooperation with the IAEA in spite of the suspension of its obligations.
In response to the recent Iranian missile attack on US positions in Iraq as retaliation for assassinating of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, US President Donald Trump called on the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, and China to break off from the Iran nuclear deal.
