Iran Press/ Iran news: Top EU diplomat and foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, has arrived in Tehran to meet senior Iranian officials, aiming to reduce tensions over the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and discussing bilateral relations.
Top EU diplomat Josep Borrell arrived in Tehran on Monday on his first trip to the Islamic Republic since taking office. Borrell is due to meet President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani during his two-day trip, Iran Press reported.
The senior Spanish diplomat who served as Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2018-2019, succeeded Federica Mogherini as the EU foreign policy chief this autumn and has been active in office since November 2019.
Josep Borrell Fontelles has also played a prominent role in European politics, becoming an MEP during the 2004–2009 legislative period and serving as President of the European Parliament from July 2004 to January 2007.
