Iran Press/ Iran news: Through endeavors of the Iran Meteorological Organization and the diplomatic consultations of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after at least 15 years, Iran's representative joined The Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), head of Iran Meteorological Organization and Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Sahar Tajbakhsh, informed.
Referring to Iran's membership in the IPCC, Sahar Tajbakhsh stated that Mohammed Rahimi from the Islamic Republic of Iran and a representative from the Maldives joined the IPCC's Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI).
She added that Iran Meteorological Organization, as the IPCC national authority in Iran, introduced two representatives for the seventh election of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and one representative became a member of this important body in climate change for the first time in at least 15 years.
Mohammad Rahimi is a Climatology Professor and a Semnan University faculty member at the Faculty of Desert Studies.
Each IPCC specialized working group has two co-chairs, seven vice-chairs (the vice-chair of Asia (Region II) is from Nepal), and 12 working members from 6 different regions of the World Meteorological Organization from all over the world, which are distributed between developed and developing countries, Tajbakhsh added.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), finished its elections this morning in Nairobi. During the 59th four-day meeting of this panel, the member governments elected 34 new members, including the chairman, three vice-chairmen, and members of the task forces, Tajbakhsh explained.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations. Its job is to advance scientific knowledge about climate change caused by human activities.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established the IPCC in 1988.
