Tehran (IP) - The number of new deaths caused by COVID-19 in Iran is on a three-month low as the Middle Eastern country has launched human trials of its COVID vaccine called 'COVIran.'

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Ministry of Health Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari announced on Thursday that 1,225,143 people in the country had been infected with the coronavirus, and 988,837 recovered.

According to definitive laboratory findings from yesterday to December 31, 2020, newly diagnosed patients with COVID-19 was 6,390 cases out of whom 702 patients were hospitalized, Lari stated.

She noted that in the past 24 hours, 128 COVID-19 patients had lost their lives, bringing the total death toll to 55,223.

5,039 COVID-19 patients are in critical condition, according to the spokeswoman.

So far, 7,620,667 COVID-19 diagnosis tests have been conducted across the country, the health ministry spokeswoman pointed.

Currently, the northern cities of Sari, Amol, Ramsar and Savadkuh are regarded as red zones, 63 towns are in the orange zone, and 381 counties are in the yellow zone, Lari said.
