The head of Iran's Judiciary has stressed that the Judiciary's decisive and effective action against corrupt officials will give people confidence that corruption doesn't pay and that corrupt and fraudulent officials will be prosecuted.

Iran PressIran news: In a meeting on Tuesday with members of diplomacy and national interests parliamentary group, Hojjat-ol-Islam Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, the Head of the Judiciary emphasized that he will soon tour Iran, visiting all provinces to get a first-hand knowledge of the problems faced by law courts and the judiciary in each and every province.

He added: "We are determined to fight corruption and fraud, and that it is necessary to fight both corruption and those who have been corrupted. Fighting corruption is a long-term effort and we are determined to carry on with this fight.  I would also like to thank all members of the diplomacy and national interests parliamentary group, who are helping us in this fight, and I would like to thank the Majlis for supporting the judiciary in this effort."

Turning to the issue of contraband, Raisi said: "Another serious problem which needs to be tackled is organized smuggling of goods and contraband. We must stop the flow of contraband, and need to tackle this problem at its roots."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojjat-ol-Islam Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said: "Money and assets confiscated from corrupt and fraudulent officials must be returned to the public purse and the general public should be made aware of these efforts. The ill-gotten gains of corrupt officials will be returned to its rightful owners and the general public deserves to be informed about this campaign."

Turning to the issue of prison sentences and the number of prisoners locked up in jails, Ebrahim Raisi said: "I know that some members of parliament want to see  courts of law hand out lighter prison sentences to criminals in specific cases, and in common with some members of parliament (Majlis) I would like to see a reduction in the number of people locked up in our jails."
